WELCOME ADDRESS BY MR.WEMI JONES PRESIDENT,ASSOCIATION OF VENUE OWNERS LAGOS NIGERIA (AVOLN)AT THE MEDIA LAUNCH OF AVOLN ON 31ST OCTOBER 2017

Protocols.

On behalf of the board of trustees, Excos, media launch Committee, and members of AVOLN,I heartily welcome you all to this historic and memorable occasion: the media launch of AVOLN.

AVOLN is the umbrella body for Venue and Event Center owners in lagos and was conceived in September 2016 after a venues summit put together by Venue Compass Limited at Oriental Hotels ,Lekki,Lagos. We subsequently had our first meeting at grandeur Events Center in October 2016 and have had several other meeting thereafter,We registered with CAC and currently have over close to 100 active members It is worthy to mention that we are proud to have almost all the notable names in the industry as members AVOLN.

The Media Launch of today is specifically design for interaction with our major Stakeholders, government/government agencies, media houses, venue and event center owners, event planners, clients and the general public. It is our believe that at the end of this program ,our stakeholders and the general public will get to know us better. Pleases me to inform this gathering that our principal focus as an association is to service standardization,Accountability and Advocate. We are however committed irreversibly to contributing our quota to making Lagos the city of our dream under the leadership of His Excellency,Gov.Akinwunmi Ambode.

As expected and in view of current economic realities,we are faced with a number of adverse business challenges. The dwindling disposable incomes of majority our would -be client, in view of competing needs, have forced us to bring down our Prices even though a lot of our cost are hitting the roof tops,e.g,diesel. Unfortunately some of our regulatory agencies, have done a 100% increase on some of our obligations due to them. We will after this launch, request to have further discussions on way -forward in respect of this and other related matters.

Closely related to the above is the issue of multiple taxes .As I speak with, event centers pay as much as 15 different types of taxes/levies to the Federal, state and local government authority. We believe  this should be looked into urgently.

May I mention that AVOLN is a firm believe and supporter of the mega city Status of Lagos. We appreciate the focused and the pragmatic leadership of His Excellency and are committed to making it work with our 100% support at all tines.

We however appeal that the challenge of multiple taxation be looked into it as is affecting our business very negatively.
In closing, may I thank you all for making our programme colourful. Please enjoy the rest of the programme.

God bless you all.

WEMI JONES
