A Nigerian based advocacy organization, Connected Development (CODE)  recently launched its advocacy campaign in Kogi State through its Follow the Money Initiative.

The  Non Governmental Organization which advocates, tracks and visualizes funds meant for rural rural communities,  launched it's education campaign in Kogi State through a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders of the Local Government Education Authority Primary school in Zango-Daji Community of Adavi Local Government.

According to Mr. Busayo Morakiyan, the Programme Director of the Follow the Money Initiative the Town Hall meeting was geared towards assembling all relevant stakeholders to discuss the ongoing renovation and construction of class blocks in LGEA Primary school, Zango-Daji, for improved service delivery, effective public oversight and strengthen community ownership for the sustainability of the project.

The Programme Manager further noted that the meeting with students, staff, community leaders and other stakeholders provided an opportunity to address issues that may come up in the tracking process and get citizens of the community fully on board.

In the course of the discussion, the Programme Manager recommended  School Based Monitoring Committees (SBMC) to strengthen the resolve of the community and to demand for better services.

In the discussion on the status of the project, Mr. Morakiyan emphasised the need for financial data so that the community can have information about the actual project amount, bills of quantities and contractor details for effective oversight.
Also speaking, the Research Assistant for Connected Development in Kogi State, Mr. Umar Danasabe Mohammed noted that the Follow the Money Initiative will provide all technical expertise and support available to ensure that the project is well executed.

The Community Leader, Zango-Daji Community, Comrade Abdullahi Rabiu said the lack of synergy between the community and authority concerned has made it difficult to challenge contractors, stressing that a School Based Monitoring Committee will be set up immediately.
